Social Night: Manatees
Friday, January 12 at 6:30 pm
Join us on Friday, January 12 at 6:30 pm to learn about our favorite gentle giants – Manatees! Enjoy delicious food and drinks, and bring your favorite potluck-style dish to share!
Recently, local news has brought awareness to the impacts of seagrass habitat loss on the health of our waterways. Aarin Allen, of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, will discuss how changes within the Indian River Lagoon have lead to a necessary shift in Manatee diets. He will explain how those changes have effected the health of these important herbivores, as well as other marine species, including large game fish.
Evening’s Itinerary:
6:30 pm to 7 pm: Happy Hour – Enjoy refreshing hors d’oeuvres on us! Bring your favorite “potluck” style dish to share. Sip wine and beer as you chat with fellow guests, the evenings’ presenter, and the Pura Vida Crew.
7 pm to 7:45 pm: Presentation by Aarin Allen, of the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission
7:45 pm to 8 pm: Questions & Raffle Drawing
Proceeds from our 50/50 raffle will support local Manatee research and conservation. The winner of the raffle drawing will receive a gift certificate for the value of half the proceeds raised, or they may choose to donate the entire amount.
