Join Pura Vida Divers on Friday, February 16 for our next Social Night: Florida Shark Migrations! The event begins at 6:30 pm and features guest speaker Dr. Stephen Kajiura of Florida Atlantic University, delicious food and drinks, and a 50/50 raffle.

unnamedEach winter Southeast Florida witnesses a tremendous influx of blacktip sharks that form massive aggregations in nearshore waters. For the past seven years, Dr. Kajiura and his team of researchers have employed aerial surveys, and acoustic and satellite telemetry to study the annual blacktip shark migration along the US eastern seaboard.

Learn how far these sharks travel from their overwintering grounds in Florida during summer, and how ocean warming has likely driven their migration to higher latitudes than historically reported.

Dr. Kajiura will also address our current knowledge of the shark migration and distribution, and outline the new research being conducted off Palm Beach County this season.

Bring your favorite potluck-style dish to share, and be sure to RSVP to save your seat!
