Have you ever seen a sea turtle lay eggs? We encounter these living dinosaurs out on the reefs, but at nighttime, female sea turtles crawl up onto the beach to lay their eggs. Join us at Loggerhead Marinelife Center to see these sea turtles in action.

Take an evening stroll on the beach at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Join local experts at one of the densest loggerhead nesting sites in the world.

After arriving at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, enjoy a presentation about the sea turtle’s journey, nesting and reproduction, and find out more about local populations. Then, follow an expert to search for nesting sea turtles.

LOGGERHEAD MARINELIFE CENTER

Loggerhead Marinelife Center has been committed to the rehabilitation of sick and injured sea turtles for over three decades. Their treatment protocol spans from each sea turtle’s rescue to release, meaning they release their sea turtle patients as soon as they’re medically cleared.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center is the only sea turtle hospital between Orlando and the Florida Keys. And, it’s open to the public. More than 350,000 people visit Loggerhead Marinelife Center each year to learn about sea turtles and to take a peak at their sea turtle hospital. From public outreach to sea turtle surgeries, Loggerhead Marinelife Center makes waves in ocean conservation.

SEA TURTLE NESTING SEASON

Summertime is sea turtle nesting season in South Florida. Sea turtles congregate in our local waters to mate. Then, during the day, they nap, snack, and swim along our local reefs. Hoping to spot them in action? Join us on a 2-tank Sea Turtle Dive.

Once a female sea turtle is ready to lay her eggs, she’ll wait until night time, then crawls ashore to build her nest. After nesting, she returns to the ocean while her eggs incubate. Finally, when the eggs are ready to hatch, baby sea turtles make their way out of the nest and into the ocean.

ABOUT THE SEA TURTLE NESTING WALK

Walk along one of the most highly nested on beaches with Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s seasoned guides and scouts. Flashlights and photography are not permitted during the walk, to ensure we have as little impact as possible on the sea turtles. While nesting sea turtles cannot be guaranteed, this sea turtle hot spot is the perfect place to try your luck.
