Savor in the new year with some delicious and sustainable seafood! Join us on January 22nd, 2016 for our monthly Social Night event where Kitty Philips will be offering some mouth-watering seafood recipes. Most importantly, she will share with us some very important facts about the seafood we eat.  And a guest from FWC will provide onsite demos regarding handling the invasive lionfish.

We can all do our part to preserve our ocean environment by making ocean-friendly seafood choices. Kitty Philips will discuss Seafood Watch and how our seafood purchasing decisions affect our ocean environment.

Additionally, Meaghan Faletti from the FWC will he presenting a demonstration on proper handling of the invasive lionfish and an on-site filleting demo.  Here’s a sample of what to expect: lionfish demo video.

Kitty will then share some of her favorite seafood recipes, and cook a lionfish dish for attendees to sample. This is one delicious and educational Social Night you do not want to miss. Make sure to mark your calendars for January 22nd, 2016.

Kitty Philips is an instructor with the Florida Master Naturalist Program and an Advanced Assessment team member with REEF (Editors note: She’s also one heck of a chef!).

Meaghan Faletti is the Lionfish Outreach Coordinator for the FWC
